How to Avoid the Rejection Blues
by Lara Nance
Rejections should be viewed as tools. I can usually find a lesson in most rejections that I can use to avoid further rejections in the future. Look at it as constructive criticism and try to find some element that helps you with your craft.
I’ve even used rejections to meet agents and editors at conferences if there was something memorable about the rejection. Once I sent an agent flowers because she actually gave me some feedback with the rejection. At the RWA convention a year later she still remembered me because of that and encouraged me to keep pitching her.
There will always be that one psycho that is mean nasty and probably never even read your book. They will go to hell, so don’t worry about them.
Give yourself one day to pity yourself over a rejection, then stop thinking about it and move on.
